SinoPac Supports “2021 Taiwan SDGs Action Days” to Raise Public Awareness Towards Climate Change
[2021.12.02, Taipei] The global climate issue has elevated from global warming to global heating. To mitigate climate change and raise the public’s awareness of climate change, Bank SinoPac, a subsidiary of SinoPac Holdings, sponsored the “2021 Taiwan SDGs Action Days” organized by the Paper Windmill Arts and Educational Foundation. With the United Nations Sustainable Goals (SDGs) as the theme, we use a combination of art, drama, games, and knowledge to engage parents and children in a variety of creative contexts to understand the importance of environmental sustainability and work together towards the goal of a sustainable planet.
According to SinoPac Holdings, SinoPac has long been taking concrete actions to give back to society by combining its core finance business with the United Nations sustainable development goals. It has drawn up action plans for “promoting cultural equality”, “raising public awareness of climate change”, and “supporting public welfare organizations/social enterprises to assist disadvantaged groups for employment” to promote various social participation projects.
In promoting climate awareness to the general public, SinoPac is actively advocating the concept of “SinoPac Life—A Million Acts of Green” from the inside out so that green actions can become a habit in our everyday lives. This year, for the first time, we collaborated with the “2021 Taiwan SDGs Action Days” event and set up an enterprise booth at the event. A “Speed Cycle” game is planned to allow parents and children at the venue to generate electricity by pedaling a bicycle to experience how difficult it is to generate energy.
The “2021 Taiwan SDGs Action Days” (https://sdgsaction.tw/) will be held on December 4th and 5th at the National Dr.Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. In addition to the “Speed Cycle” game, which allows the public to appreciate the importance of saving energy, SinoPac also plans to invite the public to decorate the Million Acts of Green collection board in the shape of a Christmas tree with their own acts of green. We hope that each person’s acts of green can be integrated into a great force and raise social awareness toward climate change in solidarity.
SinoPac Holdings is committed to promoting sustainable development and has made “exploring green opportunities and fulfilling sustainability commitments” the central axis of its sustainability strategy for the next three years. We will focus on the three sustainable commitments of “eliminating inequality”, “mitigating and adapting to climate change”, and “promoting co-prosperity and growth”. In one commitment in particular, “mitigating and adapting to climate change”, we will promote responsible finance and integrate ESG factors into our investment and financing business decision-making process. So far, SinoPac has achieved many concrete achievements, such as financing a balance of nearly NT$60 billion for solar energy, launching an ESG evaluation system for Taiwan stocks based on the SASB framework, issuing three ESG sustainability funds, and counseling green enterprises to go public.
