SinoPac Holdings Responds to the Earth Hour Initiative to Reduce Carbon and Protect the Earth
[2020.3.28] SinoPac Holdings has responded to the Earth hour initiative to turn off lights for one hour. Synchronized with the world, SinoPac Holdings turned off its lights for one hour last Saturday (March 26) at 8:30 pm, becoming part of the world's largest voluntary public welfare carbon reduction event. In addition to SinoPac Holdings' building , 172 other business locations, including those of its subsidiaries, Bank SinoPac and SinoPac Securities, participated in this event. More than 1,000 employees and their families have joined the event by turning their lights off to reduce carbon and protect the Earth in solidarity.
Mr. Stanley Chu, President of SinoPac Holdings, said that the increasingly urgent climate anomalies and global warming pose a great threat to the lives and livelihood of people around the world. If only everyone can make some minor changes in their daily lifestyle and join hand in hand with all of Earth's citizens, can we allow the Earth to rest. We must take comprehensive action for our own sake and for the next generation's sake; no one can turn their backs on the global situation. SinoPac Holdings' Board of Directors recently approved the commitment to achieve net-zero emissions from its own operations by 2030 and net-zero emissions from its entire asset portfolio by 2050. It will use its financial influence to lead its employees and clients to create a three-win situation for finance, industry, and ecology through investment and credit.
This is the second year that SinoPac Holdings has participated in the "Earth hour" event organized by O'right, the official licensee in Taiwan. Last year in 2021, SinoPac's building was the first to respond to this campaign, as environmental protection and care for the Earth have been the consensus of all SinoPac's staff. This year, a total of 172 banking and security offices also joined the lights-off campaign, turning off all kinds of signboards and electronic signboards at 8:30 pm for three consecutive days from March 25 to March 27.
SinoPac Holdings encourages its employees to do "a simple act of green every day" to care for the Earth through daily activities. At the same time, the 17th of every month is designated as "SinoPac Environmental Protection Day." On the "SinoPac Life—A Million Acts of Green" website platform, a monthly environmental protection theme has been adopted to call on its employees, clients, and the public to contribute to the sustainable development of Earth. In 2021, 100% of SinoPac's employees signed the "Office Environment and Energy Saving Code" to encourage employees, clients, and the public to do simple acts of green in their daily lives. SinoPac used various channels such as education and promotion, advocacy activities, business services, and concrete actions from the inside out to realize its determination to love the Earth and contribute to sustainable development.
